Urbanwear Iconoclasts#5:Max Bareham Streetwear photographer/FilmMaker
The Streetwear Microcosm,is characterized by Huge Brands that are shifting perceptions around the boundaries between Streetwear and High-Fashion,Icons ,The kanye West likes setting up trends, and dictating what it means to be fresh..but that’s only a small part of this Living and breathing Organism , or as one of my Guest called it “The Streetwear Game”.
There’s an underlying Layer of Creative Peoples that are in my Opinion under-represented,Instagram Page Owners,Models,And within the Case of this interview Talented Photographers.. that are helping making the culture more interesting,Unique and defined with certain Aesthetic.

Here’s the Full Interview:
So who is Max Bareham,Could You Introduce Yourself to the People that don’t know your Work?
My name is Max Bareham, I am a 19 year old photographer/filmmaker from Reading, UK. I have been a photographer now for around 4 years now.
I would say I got more into streetwear after my first supreme purchase in 2016. The uniqueness of the brand really drew me in.It was a style that I really had never seen before.
How did you get Into Streetwear,And what Drew you to It?
I kinda fell into streetwear, I have always been intrested in fashion to some extent but only recently have I really started to experiment with fashion/ streetwear photography. I would say I got more into streetwear after my first supreme purchase in 2016. The uniqueness of the brand really drew me in. It was a style that I really had never seen before.
Why Did you Choose Photography As a Medium instead of let’s say Graphic Design,Music..?And what came first ?an Interest in The streetwear Aesthetics,Clothing ..or Photography?
I have always been a photographer. I started doing sports photography when I was around 13/14 years old. Only within the last sort of 6 months have I tried to experiment with combining my love of photography with my love of streetwear. I started shooting my friends that where interested in streetwear as they always wanted pictures for instagram etc. It kind of grew from there really, more and more people wanted photos.
What are Your Favorite Streetwear Brands? If you have To Pick 3 which ones are your favorite? and what attracts you to these brands?
have always love simple clothing items and low-key clothes. The simplistic looks of the brands really interest me.
Favourite streetwear brands is a very tough question. I would say of course Supreme as they are the main reason why I got so interested in streetwear. But I think I would say that my favourite brands are, Supreme, Off white and Anti Social Social Club. I have always love simple clothing items and low-key clothes. The simplistic looks of the brands really interest me. I love how Supreme and ASSC don’t take themselves too seriously as well, they just have fun creating what they love.
How Do you feel about the streetwear Community? Is it a healthy one in your Opinion or it’s just a culuture driven By trends,Money…
I dont really know how much I can say about the streetwear community to be honest as I havent really been involved for too long. In my experience the streetwear community has been very welcoming. Streetwear enthusiasts tend to be very creative people and are always ones that will have no problem collaborating on projects such as photoshoots or social media things etc. I think that a lot of the streetwear scene is driven by money but then thats expected. If you have the money and you can buy the clothes, then people are far more likely to know you as they will always be attracted to what you’re wearing, especially if its a rare piece.
How do you go about Picking up Models for Photoshoots? are they usually friends or people you hangout with ? or do you network with models on a professional level via Social Media?Instagram..
Usually the models that I use are all friends of mine. I do have some people come to me on instgram and facebook etc looking to model, but i would say for the most part I usually just use my friends that are into streetwear. I would love to network a little more and find more like minded people to collaborate with, however when you are working full time and have a lot going on, it can be very difficult to do.
Streetwear enthusiasts tend to be very creative people and are always ones that will have no problem collaborating on projects such as photoshoots or social media things etc.
It seems like Instagram,And social Media in general is becoming more about content Curation then Creation,How do you feel As a Photographer and artist about this Approach, and How did it affect your Business?
I would say that instagram etc are still about creation to a pretty large extent. I think that it is becoming more and more about content curation but i think that people are still pushing to create more and more and try new things in order to be different. I think that no matter what happens creativity will always be there, and creative people will always come up with new ways to push social media and show their viewers their skills. It hasn’t really affected me too much as I wouldn’t class what I do as a business. Photography is very fun to me and I always wanted to keep it fun. I love to create so it never really felt like work. I have never really felt pressure to create something, I just do it cos I love to.
Could you give Us an Insight about the “Uk” s streetwear Scene, and How it influenced your photos?
Honestly I don’t really know enough about it to give an insight. I would say that a lot of people are getting more into the whole skater style what with the huge adoption of brands such as Palace and Supreme. The streetwear scene that I know is very much built up around yeezys, supreme, palace etc. I love the urban street style of photography.
When I first started taking photos of fashion I pretty much just based my shoots around things I had seen on instagram. People like Justin Escalona, Court Dunstan, Vivian Frank. As time went on I started to introduce my own take on the scene and try and find my own way within the art. I think that a lot of people do this and it really helped me to find my feet coming into an area where I had very little experience.
I think that no matter what happens creativity will always be there, and creative people will always come up with new ways to push social media and show their viewers their skills.
While checking Your Behance Profile, i see that you are a Big “Supreme” fan.what’s about this Brand that is so Catchy and interesting to You? and in your Opinion, does the brand have lost it’s main Community since it’s gone Mainstream?
I do really like Supreme. I don’t own a lot of it as I have always felt that their pieces are often very out there and just wouldn’t suit me. I have always gravitated to the more lowkey simplistic pieces such as the Timberland collab hoodie. Thats definitely my favourite piece that I own. As a brand however I love the fact that they do what they want.
I love the fact that they dont hold back and create some of the most interesting/weird pieces I have seen. I feel like within the streetwear community people try very hard to convince people they’ve been into the culture for a long time.
I would say younger kids especially that buy the clothes purely because of the label and then say that they have been into the clothes for years are what poeple have a problem with. Personally I have no problem admitting that I haven’t been in the game very long at all, but I only buy clothes if I truly like them.
I think a lot of the OG supreme buyers are getting annoyed at how many people now try and rep supreme/palace purely because they want the attention rather than because they love the clothes and appreciate the art and the process that goes into making them.
If you have a dream Collaboration or to Photoshoot a specific Campaign or Lookbook for a Company?Which one Would you pick? same applies for Models if you have ones In Mind.
I would love to see a Supreme x Adidas collaboration purely from a creative aspect. I would be really interested to see the kind of designs they could think up on a shoe such as an Ultra Boost.
I would love to shoot a campaign for Off White. I just think their pieces are so simplistic. I have always preferred that style to crazy, in your face clothing.
Any Future Projects,Collaborations..Anything You wanna add?
I have a couple of projects in the works and as SS17 collections continue to roll out I will be doing more and more photo shoots covering new pieces from different brands. Im always looking for people to create with so if anyone is down, you know where to find me.
